Stress Reduction
What is stress?
We are all born with an instinctive stress response; this instinct is there for a very good reason, to protect us against potential danger. Whenever we perceive a threat to our safety either real or perceived our nervous system automatically releases the stress hormone adrenaline, this causes an instant mental and physical change. It gives us the mental and physical ability to deal with a potential attack this is called the ‘fight or flight response'.
The automatic stress response is really designed for use in emergencies to get us out of imminent danger. However in the modern world we are living at such a pace that the stress response is activated on a regular basis. Commuting, being overworked, trying to keep your head above water financially, relationship problems, queuing in the supermarket, sitting in traffic, all these things and many others cause us stress every day. So stress hormones are being released all the time and without a suitable outlet stress builds and builds and builds until it becomes detrimental to our mental and physical health.
How can hypnotherapy help with stress?
The inability to deal with the stress may be deep seated at some point in the past or may be due to current circumstances. The hypnotherapist will discover which of these is the case and treatment will be specific to that cause. Hypnotherapy is one of the best tools available for stress management. Stress issues are addressed from two directions. On the first session we will deal with the symptoms of stress with a very deep and beneficial progressive relaxation, the hypnotherapist will also teach you self-hypnosis which will allow you to control your own level of relaxation enabling you to enter a deep state of relaxation at any time. Of course when you are relaxed you can't be stressed and the more you practice the lower your stress levels will be. On subsequent sessions the hypnotherapist will be looking for the root cause of the stress and tailor the therapy to deal with that cause .
